Asonarwilltransmitasoundwaveintothewateraroundthe
vessel.Whenthissoundwavehitssh,bottom,orotherobjects
inthewater,apartofthesoundwillbereturnedasechoes.
Theseechoesarecollectedbythesonar,interpretedbythesonar
computers,andpresentedonthedisplay.
Themostimportantinterpretationishoweverlefttoyou,and
itmayoftenbedifculttodistinguishtheechoesandidentify
targets.Inordertohelpyouwiththis,theSH90sonarprovides
numerousadvancedlterandgainfunctions.Youcanalsotilt
thesonarbeamverticallyinordertoachieveanoptimumresult,
andyoucanusetheverticalslicetoview“across”intothewater.

TVGmeansTimeVariedGain.Asechoeswillbeweaker
whenthedistancetothemincrease,thesonarwillautomatically
amplifydistantechoesmorethancloseechoes.Inpractice,the
gainwillincreaseinproportionwithhowlongthesonarmust
waitfortheechoes.
