NMEA0183 interface
Precautions
Observe the following when interfacing NMEA0183 devices to
SimNet:
1. NMEA0183 products that retransmit incoming
NMEA0183 data may cause a data loop back, resulting in
erratic readout and poor performance of the interfaced
products. – The SimNet AT10 and AT15 converters (see
below) are protected against loop back.
2. Use the AT10 Universal NMEA0183 converter, P/N
24005936 to connect NMEA0183 devices to SimNet if
there are no SimNet Class 1 products with NMEA0183
conversion connected to the system (page 38).
3. Avoid connecting identical NMEA0183 input data to
more than one SimNet product with the ability to convert
NMEA0183 data to SimNet format. This will load the
network unnecessary.
4. When interfacing Simrad IS15 instruments to SimNet, use
the AT15 converter, P/N 24005944.
Using AT10 and AT15 converters
The AT10 and AT15 are single product converters. To avoid
data loop back they are programmed to prevent data at the
NMEA output port to be transferred via SimNet back to the
NMEA input port. The only way to collect all available data is to
go via SimNet both ways. The below drawing illustrates the
principle of getting correct transfer of data.
