Initialsetupprocedure
ThisprocedureexplainshowtosetupthecommunicationbetweentheSimradPI50
computerandtheReceiverUnit.Thisisnormallydoneonlyonetime.
CommunicationwiththePI50ReceiverUnitisbasedonaseriallineandproprietary
telegrams.YoucanonlysetupthiscommunicationwithalicensedversionofthePI50
software.
Important
IfyoupurchasethePI50Maritimecomputer,serialportA(1)issetupandactivated
forthisinterface.Ifyouuseyourowncomputer,makesurethatitisequippedwithan
RS-232serialport.ThisistheonlywayyoucancommunicatewiththeReceiverUnit.

TheremainingstepsdescribehowtosetuptheinterfaceinthePI50software.
1ConnectthePI50computertotheReceiverUnitusingaserialline.
aLocateafreeserialportthatcanbeusedforthiscommunication.
bOnthechosenseriallinesocketonthePI50computer(maleconnector),
connecttheRS-232cableasfollows:
•ReceivesignalRxonpin2.
•TransmitsignalTxonpin3.
•CommonGroundonpin5.
cOntheReceiverUnit,usetheonlyseriallinesocketavailable(female
connector).ConnecttheRS-232cableina1:1conguration.
Note
TheconnectionbetweenthecomputerandtheReceiverUnitusesa1:1serial
cable.Asuitablecablewithlength2misprovidedwiththeTransceiverUnit.If
youneedalongercable,youcanextendthiscable,ormakeyourown.

dEnsurethatthetotallengthoftheseriallinecabledoesnotexceed
approximately50meters.
Ifalongercableisrequired,youmayneedtousebufferampliersonthe
serialline.
