Circuitboardhandlingandpackaging
Circuitboardsaredelicateitems.Theymayworkyearafteryearinanadvancedproduct,
butthenfailduetoasmallsparkofstaticelectricity.Forthisreason,itisveryimportant
thattheyareproperlyhandledandprotectedduringshipping.
BewareofESD!
Whenyouhandleelectroniccircuitboards,youmustbewareofthedangersof
electrostaticdischarge(ESD),bothtoyourselfandtotheequipment.Inordertoensure
safetransportandstorage,circuitboardsandotherelectronicunitswillalwaysbe
wrappedinaclearplasticprotectivebag,andthebagwillbesealed.Seealsosection

Unpackingandhandlingcircuitboards
Tounpackacircuitboard:
•Whereverpossible,prepareasuitableworkbench.Itmusthaveanapproved
conductiveservicemat,anditmustbeconnecteddirectlytoareliableearthpointvia
itsearthingcord.Youmustwearawristbandindirectcontactwiththeskin,andthe
wristbandmustbeconnectedtotheservicemat.
•Liftthecircuitboard,initsprotectivebag,outofthecartonandplaceitinastable
positionontheaoor/workbench.
•Inspecttheunitfordamagebeforeyouopentheplasticbag.
•Donotbreakthesealtoopenacircuitboardpackagebeforetheboardshalltobe
used.Iftheboardpackageisreturnedwiththesealbroken,wewillassumethatthe
contenthasbeenused,andwewillbillyouaccordingly.
•Assumingalliswell,openthebagandremovetheunit.
•Takeoutandkeepthedocumentation.Youwillneeditifthecircuitboardshallbe
returnedtous.Also,removeanypackinganddesiccantmaterialthatmaybeinside.
•Keeptheprotectiveplasticbagforfutureuse.
