APPENDIXB—EQUIPMENTHANDLING
Thissectionprovidesthebasicrulesfortransportation,storageandhandlingofunits.In
thiscontext,aunitmaybeanylargeorsmallpartofthesystem.Itcanbesuppliedas
partoftheinitialdelivery,orasasparepart.
Transportation
Unlessotherwisestatedintheaccompanyingdocumentation,electronic,
electro-mechanicalandmechanicalunitssuppliedbySimradcanbetransportedusingall
methodsapprovedfordelicateequipment;(byroad,rail,airorsea).Theunitsaretobe
transportedinaccordancewithgeneralorspecicinstructionsfortheappropriateunit(s),
usingpallets,transportcases,orcartonboxesasappropriate.
Note
Speciallocalrestrictionsconcerningairtransportationmaybeappliedtounits
containingcertaintypesofbatteries.Theseunitsmustbecheckedproperly,andthe
regulationsmustbeinvestigatedbythepacker/shipperbeforetheunitisdispatched.
Alllocaltransportationmustbecarriedoutaccordingtothesamespecicationsasfor
theinitialdelivery.Ingeneral,allunitsmustbehandledwithcare.
Thecartonorcasecontainingtheunitmustbekeptdryatalltimes,andmustbesheltered
fromtheweather.Itmustnotbesubjectedtoshocks,excessivevibrationorotherrough
handling.Thecartonorcasewillnormallybemarkedwithtextorsymbolsindicating
whichwayitistobeplaced.Followanyinstructionsgiven,andensurethecaseisalways
placedwithits“top”uppermost.
Thecartonorcasemustnotbeusedforanypurposeforwhichitwasnotintended(step,
table,etc.),andintheabsenceofotherinformation,noothercartonsorcasesmust
bestackedontopofit.
Lifting
Aheavycratewillnormallybemarkedwithitsweight,andtheweightsofothercartons
orcrateswillnormallybeenteredonthepackinglist.
•Youmustalwayschecktheweightofacratebeforeyouattempttoliftit.
•Youmustalwaysuseliftingapparatusthatisapprovedandcertiedfortheload.
Heavyunitsmaybeequippedwithliftinglugsfortransportationbycranewithinthe
workshoporinstallationarea.Beforeyouuseacrane:
•Youmustchecktheapplicableweightcerticateforthecrane.
•Youmustcheckthesecurityoftheliftinglugs.
