Howtoupdatethetransceiversoftware
Thisprocedureexplainshowtoupgradethetransceiversoftware.
ItispossibletoupdatethesoftwareintheGeneralPurposeTransceiver(GPT).
ThisupdateisonlynecessaryifnewfunctionalityintheES70softwarerequiresanewer
softwareversion.Thesoftwarereleasenoteprovidedwillthenincludethenecessary
instructions.Transceiversoftwareupdatecanalsobeusefulifyouhaveanoldunit.
Ifthesoftwareversiononyourtransceiverisnewer
than020302(2March2002)you
willonlyneedtoupdatethesoftwareifinstructedbythesoftwarereleasenotetodoso.
Duringnormaluseyouwillthereforenotberequiredtoupdatethetransceiversoftware.
Thesoftwareupdateisaneasyandautomatedtask,butyoumustonlydothiswhenyou
reallyneedto.Duetothespecialnatureofthecommunicationbetweenthecomputer
andthetransceiver,theinterfacecircuitryinthetransceiverissubjectedtoheavystrain
whenthesoftwareupdateismade.Unfortunately,wehaveseenthattheelectronic
circuitryonsomerareoccasionshavefailed.Sincetherelevantcircuitboardmustbe
returnedtoSimradforreprogramming,westronglyadviseyounottodothisupdate
yourself,butleavethistasktoyourdealer.
