Adjustingtheshlengthforcorrectcalculations

TheES70measuresandrecordsthetargetstrength(TS).Theresearchersatthe

NorwegianInstituteforFisheryResearchhavecompiledasetofalgorithmsbasedon

extensivetestingwiththevariousspecies,andtheseareusedbytheES70tocalculatethe

lengthoftheshbasedonitstargetstrength.However,thetargetstrengthdiffersbetween

thevariousspecies.Ifyoundoutthatthelengthoftheshyouhavecaughtdiffers

fromtheinitialpresentation,youcanadjustthealgorithmsusedtocalculatethelength.

Note

Payspecialattentiontomackerel,asthisshhasaverylowtargetstrength.Mackerel

canoftenbemistakenforsmallbait.Ifyoushformackerel,werecommendthatyou

use120kHzor200kHzechosounderfrequencies,asthemackerelshowslargestecho

strengthforthesefrequencies.
