Upperechogram:Pelagicorsurfacerelated
Whenyouneedtoestablishaverticaldepthrange,whynotlettheechosounderchooseit
foryou.Onthemainmenu,setRangetoAuto.
Youcanalsodeneyourowndepthrange.Toestablishadepthrangefromthesurface
anddowntothebottom,setRangetoasuitabledepth,andStartRangeto0(zero)meters.
Aphasedareamayalsobeestablished.Thisisusedwhenyouwishtoconcentrateon
acertainandlimiteddepthrangeIfyouforexamplendsaschoolofsh150meters
belowthesurface,youcansetuptheechosoundertoshowthisschoolwithoutalso
providedinformationfromthewatercolumnoverandunderit.Tosetthisup,setStart
Rangetoafewmetersabovetheschool,andRangetoafewmetersbelowit.
Ifyouarebotheredbyinterferencefromasonarusingthesameoperationalfrequency,
trytosetStartRangeto10to20meters.Youwillthenavoidthenoisewhenboth
systemstransmitsimultaneously.

Inasurfaceechogram,settheStartRangevalueto0meters.Thiswill
maketheechogramstartfromtheseasurface(providedthatthetransducer
offsethasbeendened).SetRangetothecurrentdepthplus20meters.The
echogramwillnowshowtheareafromtheseasurfaceanddownto20
meters“below”thebottom.Thebottomcontouriseasilydetectedwhen
thedepthchanges.

Inasurfaceechogram,settheStartRangevalueto10meters.Thiswillmake
theechogramstartfrom10metersbelowtheseasurface(providedthatthe
transduceroffsethasbeendened).SetRangetothecurrentdepthplus20
meters.Theechogramwillnowshowtheareafrom10metersbelowthesea
surface,anddownto10meters“below”thebottom.Thebottomcontouris
easilydetectedwhenthedepthchanges.

Inapelagicechogram,settheStartRangevalueto20meters.Thiswillmake
theechogramstartfrom20metersbelowtheseasurface(providedthatthe
transduceroffsethasbeendened).SetRangeto40meters.Theechogram
willnowshowtheareafrom20metersbelowtheseasurface,anddownto
60metersbelowthetransducer.Providedthatthedepthislargerthan60
meters,thebottomcontourisnotshown.

Themajorityofourusersprefertousethelowerechogram(B)forbottomexpansion.
