YoucanadjusttheTVGsettingusingtheEchogramorTVGfunctions.Botharelocated
ontheActivemenu.
Becausethestrengthoftheechoeswillbecomeweakerwithincreasingdepth,theecho
sounderwillautomaticallyamplifythedeepestechoesmorethantheshallowerechoes.
Infact,thegainwillincreaseproportionaltohowlongtheechosounder“waits”forthe
echoes.WhenyouchoosetheTVGsettingyoucaneitherswitchitoff(whichwedo
NOTrecommended),oryoucanchoosesettings20logRor40logR.
Thevarioussettingscontrolthegainalgorithms,howmuchgaintobeappliedwhen
thedepthincreases.Whenyouchoosethe40logRsetting,thegainwillincreasewith
thedepthmorerapidlythanifyouchoosethe20logRsetting.Thisissimplybecause
individualshesemitsmallerechoesthanaschool,andthismakesthemmoredifcultto
detect.IntheequationthecharacterRmeans“Range”.
