Fromtimetotimeitmaybeusefultoreducetheoutputpower.Areducedpower
outputmayprovebenecialifyouarelookingforsingleshesorschoolsnearthe
surface,ifyouworkinveryshallowwaters,ifyouarebotheredwithfalseechoesdueto
reverberation,orifyousimplyfeelthattheechoesaretoostrong.
Note
Ifyouincreasetheoutputpower ,makesurethatyoudonotchoosemorepowerthanyour
transducercanhandle.Withacorrectsetupwiththetransducerregisteredintheecho
soundersoftwareyouaresafeguardedagainstthis.However ,ifyouuseathirdparty
transducerthatisnotknownbytheechosoundersoftware,youmayinictpermanent
damageifyouincreasetheoutputtobeyondthetransducer’scapabilities.

Thelengthofyourtransmittedpulseisveryimportanttohowyoucandetectsh.
•Ashortpulsedurationgivesyouaveryneverticalresolution.Thisallowsyouto
detectscatteredsh,andyoucanndthosethatmovenearthebottom.
•Alongpulsedurationthrowsalotmoreenergyintothewater,andthedigitallters
usedbythereceiverarenarrower.
TheselterswillreducetheES70’ssensitivityfornoise,butthelengthofthetransmitted
pulsewillgiveyoustrongerechoes.Withthelters,alongerpulsedurationwillprovide
longerrange,butreducedverticalresolution.
