Product Familiarisation
Unpacking your battery charger
• Carefully unpack your battery charger. Ensure all packaging materials are
removed and fully familiarise yourself with all features of the product.
• If any parts are damaged or missing, have these parts repaired or replaced
before use.
Operating Instructions
WARNING:Donotconnectthechargertothemainspowersupplyuntilinstructed
in the steps below.
Connecting to battery (In Vehicle)
• This charger is suitable for use on 12V/24V, negative earth, electrical systems.
• MarinebatteriesmustALWAYSbemovedtodrylandforcharging.Thischarger
is not designed for use in a marine environment.
• If appropriate, check battery fluid level before charging. Top up with distilled
water if required. Check battery manufacturers guidance as to whether cell
caps should be removed for charging.
• Ensurethatengineisstopped,andthatallelectricalaccessories(lights,radio
etc)areswitchedoff.Keepvehiclebonnet,bootoraccesspanels,openduring
battery charging.
• Locate battery and identify battery terminals. The positive terminal is usually
marked with a “+” symbol, the negative terminal is usually marked with a
“-“ symbol. If you are unsure of which terminal is which, seek professional
assistance.
• Refer to vehicle manufacturer’s handbook to determine whether terminals
should be disconnected for charging. Follow manufacturer’s guidance.
• If the battery terminals are corroded, or dirty, clean them with a suitable wire
brush.
• Attachpositiveclamp(3)topositivebatteryterminal.
• Attachnegativeclamp(4)toacleanpartofthevehiclechassis,orothersturdy
metal part. Do not connect the clamp to any part of the vehicles fuel system.
• Check that clamps are securely connected, and that they will not come loose
during charging process.
Connecting to battery (Free Standing)
• This charger is suitable for use on 12V/24V lead acid batteries.
• If appropriate, check battery fluid level before charging. Top up with distilled
water if required. Check battery manufacturers guidance as to whether cell
caps should be removed for charging.
• Identify battery terminals. The positive terminal is usually marked with a “+”
symbol, the negative terminal is usually marked with a “-“ symbol. If you are
unsure of which terminal is which, seek professional assistance.
• If the battery terminals are corroded, or dirty, clean them with a suitable wire
brush.
• Attach an insulated battery cable, at least 600mm long, to the negative battery
terminal.
• Attachpositiveclamp(3)topositivebatteryterminal.
• Attachnegativeclamp(4)tonegativebatterycable.
• Check that clamps are securely connected, and that they will not come loose
during charging process.
Charging battery
• Checkthatthevoltageselectionswitch(1)ispositionedcorrectlyforthevoltage
of the battery being charged.
• Connect the charger to the mains power supply.
• Setthechargerateselectionswitch(2)totheappropriatepositionforthe
batterybeingcharged.NOTE:Batteriesshouldonlybechargedatacurrent
equalto1/10oftheirAhrating(e.g.a100Ahbatteryshouldnotbechargedata
currentgreaterthan10A),ifthebatteryhasbeenallowedtodeepdischargedo
not charge at a rate greater than 1/20 of their Ah rating.
• Thechargeratecanbemonitoredbyreferringtotheammeter(5).Ifthecharge
rateistoohigh,movethechargerateselectionswitch(2)tothe“MIN”position.
• For a quick charge to refresh a partially drained battery, allow 5-10mins
charging time in the “BOOST” position
• Asthebatterycharges,thechargeratewillgraduallydecrease.Whenthe
readingontheammeter(5)reaches“0”,thebatteryisfullycharged.
NOTE:
• Whenchargingverycoldbatteries,theinitialchargeratemayincreaseasthe
battery warms. Do not attempt to charge a frozen battery.
• Internallydamaged(shorted)batterieswilldrawveryhighcurrent,without
charging. If the battery has been charging for 5-10mins and shows no reduction
in charging current, the battery may be damaged. Stop charging and have
battery professionally tested.
• Disconnect the charger from the mains power supply. Leaving the battery
connected may result in overcharging and permanent battery damage.
• Disconnectthenegativeclamp(4).
• Disconnectthepositiveclamp(3).
• Reattach battery terminals if required.
Maintenance
Cleaning
• Keep your battery charger clean. Always clean dust or particles away, and
never allow ventilation holes to become blocked. Use a soft brush, or dry cloth
to clean the machine. If available blow through the ventilation holes with clean,
dry, compressed air.
• Make sure that the positive, and negative, lead clamps are kept especially clean.
Dirty electrical contacts will severely impair the performance of this product.
