transmissionqualityfordatathanGPRS.EDGEcancarrydata
atspeedstypicallyupto 384
kbit/sinpacketmode.
WhenEDGEisnotavailable,yourRavenXEwillfall‐backto
GPRSfortheconnectiontoAT&Ttoprovidecontinued
connectivity.
GPRS
GeneralPacketRadioService(GPRS)ispacket‐switchedwith
manyuserssharingthesametransmissionchannel,butonly
transmittingwhentheyhavedatatosend.Thismeansthatthe
totalavailablebandwidthcanbeimmediatelydedicatedto
thoseuserswhoareactuallysendingatanygivenmoment,
providinghigherutilizationwhere
usersonlysendorreceive
dataintermittently.GPRSprovidesspeedsof30–70kbpswith
burstsupto170 kbps.
Connection methods
YoucanconnecttheRavenXEtoaUSBoraEthernet(RJ45)on
acomputer.WhenconnectedtoaUSBorEthernetport,the
RavenXEbehaveslikeanetworkcard.

TheRavenXEisequippedwithaUSBportwhichincreasesthe
methodsbywhichyoucansendandreceivedata.TheUSB
portcanbesettoworkaseitheravirtualEthernetportora
virtualserialport.Adriverinstallationisrequiredtousethe
USBportin
eithermode.
