Note: The cables used should be as short as possible
and their length must not exceed 10 m.

Note: Both display range and data displayed can differ
from this description depending on the meter parame-
terization. Certain button functions can also be blocked.

6. Parameterization
6.1 BACnet MS/TP addressing
The communication module can be addressed with MAC ad-
dresses from 1 – 127. For modules with firmware version v1 –
v4, the MAC address corresponds to the meter’s M-Bus prima-
ry address for module slot 1 (AP1). Please set the address
directly at the meter prior to any further parameterization.
Note: For modules with firmware version v5 and
higher, setting the MAC address must be done using
the WZU-485ConfigurationTool (see chapter 6.2).
6.2 Parameter setting via USB interface
Requirements:
• Micro-USB (type B) to USB cable
• Computer with Windows OS
• Software “WZU-485 Configuration Tool”; can be down-
loaded from www.landisgyr.eu
Attention: The module’s power supply must be
switched off before the module is connected to a PC
via USB cable.
Note: The micro-USB interface is used for setting
communication protocol, communication speed and
addresses.
Proceed as follows to parameterise:
• Disconnect the screw connector.
• Connect the module to a PC via micro-USB to USB cable.
• Start the software “WZU-485 Configuration Tool”.
• Press the “Read” button [1].
The software reads and displays the current parameter settings
of the module.
• Make the necessary settings.
• Press the “Write” button [2].
• After successful parameterisation, “Status OK” is displayed
[3].
• Close the software.
• Disconnect the USB cable from the module.
• Insert the screw connector.
• Close the meter’s cover and affix the seals.
Device Instance Number:
The BACnet Device Instance Number can be changed with the
WZU-485ConfigurationTool as of version 1.43.
• If no Device Instance Number is entered via the WZU-
485ConfigurationTool, the module will read the meter’s se-
rial number during the first start up after being installed and
use the last 6 digits as Device Instance Number.
• If a Device Instance Number is entered via the WZU-
485ConfigurationTool, the meter serial number will be ig-
nored.
• A Device Instance Number can also be assigned via BAC-
net command, the meter serial number will be ignored.
• If a 0 is entered as Device Instance Number via the WZU-
485ConfigurationTool or via BACnet command, the module
returns to the original logic of using the meter serial num-
ber’s last 6 digits after a new start up.
Note: For battery-powered meters: Operating the
communication module with a read-out interval of less
than 10 minutes requires a D-cell battery for 6 years.
