1.1 Defining SIMATIC PCS 7 OSx @aGlance
SIMATICPCS7OSx@aGlanceenablesyoutoreadandwritetotheOSx
database from an application running on a Windows, Linux, UNIX, or VMS
computer (Figure 1-1). In this context, @aGlance acts as a server, which is a
system or program that provides services to a client. The client is the
computer that requests and receives information from the server.
OSx @aGlance is available in two versions, one for one client and one for up
to ten clients.
The OSx @aGlance option provides easy and inexpensive access to process
data for managers, accountants, and others who need such data.
OSx @aGlance translates and transmits data in the correct format for the
application program. If the client application is a spreadsheet (such as
Excel), you can read OSx tag data and historical trend data directly into the
spreadsheet. You can also write new values to selected tags.
