5.7.1 Integration of third party systems
The concept and technical solutions available for fire integration are not new to the
market. Although Siemens value package in this case is by no means unique, it is
nevertheless still outstanding.
The management station platform is flexible to integrate systems through various
optimized methods. The standard graphics libraries enable presentation of a com-
plex objects found in fire system in a simple and consistent manner.
The thorough implementation and testing in the TBS Certification Centre, together
with in-house systems developers delivers a superior solution
The lifecycle of the entire solution is assured by Siemens, using compatible prod-
ucts in a single system lifecycle plan.
The Sinteso fire system can also be integrated into competitors’ systems through a
number of methods, namely via:
– MK8000 OPC Server from Fire and Security Products
– Own integration driver development
Honeywell, TAC and other competitors can integrate using the MK8000 OPC
Server and the NK8223 network gateway. This solution has additional hardware
and engineering costs and cannot be cost competitive with the PX-OPEN solution.
The OPC integration platforms from Honeywell and TAC are less rich in functional-
ity than that offered through Siemens management station, so the overall strength
of their solution suffers. The higher price coupled with lower feature coverage
means the customer value offered by these competitors is also inferior.
Johnson Controls have an automation level driver into the Metasys®. This is tech-
nically similar to the PX-OPEN solution, however, reduced only functionality is im-
plemented in their solution.
Similarly, various black-box or Modbus solutions are used for monitoring fire points,
but a full integration of events and alarm management is not available.
5.7.2 Siemens management station offering
Siemens has multiple management station offerings for fire systems. These offer-
ings are positioned either as dedicated Danger Management Systems (such as
MM8000 or GMA-Manager) or as integrations with the Building Management Sys-
tem.
This solution considers only the integration into the DESIGO Building Management
System. MM8000 and GMA-Manager actually fulfill quite different market require-
ments and should not be compared competitively to DESIGO.
BACnet and OPC solutions
The TBS Value Packages offer two solutions for integration of the Sinteso fire sys-
tem; a hardware based BACnet solution and software based OPC solution.
This folder does not argue the full case between the two solutions, but instead will
try to guide the user to core decision criteria. Assuming the solution has not been
technically specified (for example, BACnet protocol) then the engineer will usually
