Fire Safety & Security Products 03.2009
The standard measures such as adequate approaches and parking space for fire
department vehicles, as well as extinguishing facilities such as hydrants, hose
cabinets, etc. are taken for granted.
The Fire Safety Measures are mandatory.
The supplementary measures are described more in detail in chapter 4. The most
used to prevent damages and thefts are:
– Access control system for specific objects or archive area
– RFID for high valuable asset to identify the location and avoid manipulation by
unauthorized staff
– Video surveillance on specific area
– Intrusion system to control
4.2.3 Fire Safety Measures in Archives
How many levels and which counter–measures should be introduced for the indi-
vidual areas and objects of the Archive depend on the extent and acceptable dam-
age to be expected as well as the possibilities for intervention by specialized staff.
The levels are:
– Room monitoring with fire detectors
– Room monitoring with aspirating smoke detection
– Room monitoring with fire detectors and/or aspirating smoke detection with
complete room extinguishing system
4.2.3.1 Archive monitoring with fire point detector
The minimal protection in archive is detection with fire point detector. The purpose
is to detect the smoldering fire at early stage, alert the staffs and fire brigade, and
limit the damage to irreplaceable goods.
