2.8 Climate
Climate compromise
The climate chosen for storage is always a compromise between partly opposing
requirements.
Humans are able to adjust to different climatic conditions. Furthermore, people
usually only spend brief periods in the actual storage area. Objects on the other
hand, can only adjust to the environmental conditions to a limited extent and they
stay in the storage area long-term. The focus of the climate compromise should
normally lie with the requirements of the objects, with the goal of slowing down de-
cay if possible and therefore being able to keep the objects as long as possible.
The objects’ requirements (requirements for different materials) and that of the us-
ers as well as the long-term effort put in by the institution must be balanced care-
fully:
