Properly air out buildings (without ventilation
system)
Air out briefly and efficiently
Condensation often is caused by ever increasing modern building shells as well as
inappropriate airing out by occupants. Targeted, periodic airing out of living areas
removes humid air and ensures required air exchange.
Air out briefly, but completely open the windows.
Recommended: Air out three times a day by opening all windows, for five to ten
minutes each.
Tilted windows open around the clock increase energy consumption by ca. 200
liters of heating oil in winter.

information
Remove steam
Air out rooms after showering, bathing, or cooking to remove excess steam.
Remember to also air out rooms while drying laundry.
Cold rooms in winter and summer
Close doors to rooms less heated.
This prevents warm, humid air from entering cooler rooms and condensing on cold
walls and windows.
Rule of thumb:
The lower the room temperature, the more often you need to air out the room.
Note that warm, humid air can condensate on cold items and walls in summer. For
this reason, only air out the basement early in the morning in summer (if at all)
(source: vzbv).
Note
Monitor room climate
Use a thermo hygrometer to check your heating and ventilation behavior.
Relative air humidity should not exceed 60%.
