11 Device update
11.1 Internal memory
A flash memory is integrated in the bus operator unit. The memory contains the text
catalogs in various languages as well as the device descriptions for the bus devices.
The bus device versions and the corresponding device descriptions must match. The
bus operator unit displays an error message in the event of incompatibility. Data is also
backed up to this memory.
11.2 Exchange bus operator unit
You must also replace the bus operator unit by a unit featuring current device
descriptions if you extend the plant by new devices or replace old devices. To do
this, order the replacement unit S/RMZ792.
Proceed as follows to replace a bus operator unit:
1. Connect the new bus operator unit with the delivered cable to a Synco 700 control
unit.
2. Use the old bus operator unit to back up the data to a second device and select
the address of the new device.
3. Remove the old bus operator unit and integrate the new bus operator unit in the
plant.
4. Select menu "Data backup / local", function "Restore" to load the backed up data
(see Section 7, Data backup).
5.
Return the old bus operator unit to your local Siemens branch.
