Only staff trained by Siemens with associated permissions (access rights) may
commission (configure) the RMZ792 operator unit.
The RMZ792 bus operator unit does not allow for commissioning (configuring) the
devices in the KNX network. Commissioning must occur locally on the device (bus
device) in the KNX network using the RMZ790 or RMZ791 operator units or centrally
using the OCI700.1 service tool.
See the installation instructions for initially starting and commissioning the RMZ792
bus operator unit.
The bus operator unit works smoothly if the device address of all bus devices is right.
This means that the device address of all bus devices and area/line couplers must
correspond to their position in the network topology (area.line.address). Wrong
device addresses result in errors when commissioning the bus operator unit.
6.1 Device address
The RMZ792 bus operator unit, similar to all other bus devices, requires a unique
device address. There are 3 ways to set the device address: One of the methods
always reflects the best method depending on use.
The device address is factory set to default 0.2.255 (area.line.address). A bus operator
unit with device address 255 does not send out process data (this applies to all devices
with device address 255). Device addresses 253 and 254 are reserved for special
devices.
6.1.1 Automatic address search
Automatic address search is ideal if the bus operator unit is installed retroactively in an
existing plant without knowing the existing address allocation.
When prompted by the operator, the bus operator unit gets the subnetwork address
(SNA, comprising area and line) from the higher line coupler. The last setting for
area and line is taken over if no subnetwork address is received.
The bus operator unit now attempts to find a free device address within the line,
starting from 252. The attempt is repeated for an address lower by 1 if the address
is taken already. The search is continued until a free device address is found.
If no free device address is found, the address retains value 255.
