Generally, the university is centrally monitored and
controlled from the Physical Plant. The system
administrator can query the APOGEE Automation
System for all user activity (general HVAC, fire,
security) for a specified time frame. Because
everyone is assigned a unique name, it is easy to
pinpoint who made modifications to a control strategy.
This saves precious time troubleshooting why a
particular condition “mysteriously” changed.
Laboratories
Safety departments are held accountable for
collecting the lab safety data. This means that
monitoring fume hood face velocity alarms and
setpoints is critical; there is no time to page through
information about other parts of the facility
management system. The safety personnel are not
interested in the status of the air-handling unit in the
cafeteria, or the staging of the chillers.
By assigning custom APOGEE Automation System
access privileges to the Safety or Chemical Hygiene
Officers, the amount of information they need to look
at can be minimized. Lab setpoints, alarms and trend
information can be viewed at an Insight workstation
as if it were a separate lab interface program.
Additionally, menu selections reflect only those
capabilities that are available based on the password
and privileges of each user. Reports are automatically
made available based on the operator’s area of
responsibility.
