Universal Access and Privileges
Figure 1. Insight User Accounts Screen.
Description
Universal Access and Privileges provide the most
comprehensive approach for reducing the risk of
untrained or unauthorized access to APOGEE
Automation System control strategies and databases,
including those of any Integrated Systems (for
example, fire, security, HVAC).
With APOGEE Automation System Universal Access
and Privileges, the system administrator can create
custom assignments to the building management
information to fit the operator’s experience level and
area of responsibility. These assignments allow the
user/administrator to restrict workstation control,
displayed data, and database manipulation. These
assigned capabilities “follow” the building operator to
any operator interface using a unique system
account.
Applications
Data Centers
Juggling the differing information demands of the
Data Center department by going through the Facility
Operations department wastes valuable time.
Commonly, Information Systems personnel want to
directly monitor and perhaps modify the conditions of
their critical computer rooms. Limiting their scope of
control and capabilities is crucial for the facility staff
who must manage the overall system including the
computer areas and associated tight tolerances.
A customized solution to accommodate both groups
can be achieved. This is accomplished by limiting
access to information that only pertains to the
integrated Data Center environment units and the
APOGEE Automation System or to the Modular
Building Controller itself controlling the computer
area. Space temperatures and humidity of the
computer area can be isolated for “monitoring and
reporting only.” This reduces the risk of untrained
personnel modifying a precise point of control.
Universities
With the growing number of diverse users of the
facility management system at a university campus,
the importance of segregating facility information and
tracking system activity increases tremendously.
Potential operators include not only the physical plant
staff, but security personnel, utilities personnel,
maintenance staff, administrators, faculty, and even
students.
All have varying levels of responsibility/interest and
experience with the system. Assigning privileges for
one user and then copying the user’s account for
other users with similar duties accelerates the set-up
process. Or, using the pre-defined defaults can
provide a starting point until individual capabilities can
be assessed.
