Features
Soft Controllers support the following field panel
functionality:
• Maintain virtual points (physical points cannot
reside in a Soft Controller)
• Run PPCL
• Send and receive Alarms and COVs
• Run equipment scheduler
• Trend points
• MMI communications through Telnet
• Firmware upgrades independent of Insight
software upgrades
Functionality
Soft Controllers are well suited to perform functions
such as:
• Mapping of third-party points integrated at the
workstation level (for example, OPC Client and
BACnet Client) to virtual points so that APOGEE
features such as Enhanced Alarming,
Scheduling, and Trending can be applied to
them.
• Providing a location to run global PPCL
applications that are not specific to any particular
APOGEE BLN.
• Creating multiple soft controllers so that points
can be logically separated—for instance, all
chiller programming in one panel, all air-handler
programming in another, and all fire system
programming in still another.
• Allowing users to download field panel databases
for testing—without affecting normal building
operations.
Requirements
Soft Controllers can be run on any workstation
running Insight Revision 3.5.1 or higher and a
Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating system.
There is no need for additional hardware for use
with a Soft Controller.
Once the Soft Controller software is installed and
the license is enabled, an unlimited number of Soft
Controllers can be defined on an Insight database
server and/or database clients (up to 7 per
workstation).
Since Soft Controllers reside on an Insight
workstation, only the resources available on the
workstation where the soft controller is running limit
controller memory. Up to 7 Soft Controllers can
reside on any given Insight workstation.
