Auto-Dial Option
Description
Auto-Dial software is designed to process and manage
remote communications between the Insight workstation
and field panels via modems and phone lines in place of a
standard hard-wired network. On an Auto-Dial network,
communications take place through a Hayes-compatible
modem and a public or private phone line. This allows
Insight workstations to communicate with field panels located
in remote building locations.
• Quick notification of alarms at the Insight workstation via
automatic dial-in from the remote field panels.
• Supports up of eight modems (four incoming) per Insight
workstation.
• Ability to call up to 300 remote locations per Insight
workstation.
• Allows workstation to be directly hard-wired to a network
while simultaneously supporting Auto-Dial connections, in
any combination up to four dedicated and eight Auto-Dial.
• APOGEE Automation System Insight stores the phone
number of each remote location for convenient dial-up.
Purpose
Insight allows up to eight simultaneous connections to or
from any remote location. Remote locations can call up to
four attached Insight modems. Auto-Dial software functions
in either automatic or in manual initiation mode at the Insight
workstation.
In the auto answer mode, remote field panels can dial in to
any of the up to four available Insight incoming modems to
report alarms or other significant events such as trend
information. The call is automatically terminated after
transmission of the data has been completed.
In the manual initiation mode, the operator has the ability to
initiate a call to any remote location through any of up to four
available modems. When the work is completed the operator
initiates a disconnect.
Applications
Typical examples of Auto-Dial uses are:
• Connections required to remote buildings
• Examine facility from home or any other remote location
• Report alarms to the Insight from remote locations
Operator Interface
The workstation will initiate a call whenever an application
activates that requires information from a remote location.
The workstation will disconnect after a period of inactivity.
Over the Management Level Network (MLN), an operator
can initiate a connection to remote locations from any other
workstation. Insight is capable of receiving alarms from
other remote locations while simultaneously being connected
to another location. Insight has all the same capabilities with
Auto-Dial as dedicated networks with directly connected field
panels.
