Procedure
Required Tools
• Master tape or cartridge from Home Office
for the particular system that is being
upgraded (TK25, TK50)
• Revision K.0 Bootable Loading
Tape/Cartridge
• One spare TK25, TK50, or Syquest cartridge
tape for backup
• Revision K.0 release notes
Definitions
The following terms are used to describe the system
disk drives and system software:
Old
Current job site software (Revision J.8 or pre-
release K.0)
New
Revision K.0 software shipped from Home
Office
Installation Procedure:
1. Log onto an MCR terminal.
2. Shut down the system. Type
@[10,1]KILL
and
press
<RETURN>
.
3. Back up the old system. Type
@[3,352]TAPEBACK
and press
<RETURN>
.
4. When the backup procedure is complete, HALT
the system and mark the BRU'D copy "Old."
5. Insert and load the Revision K.0 Bootable
Loading Tape in the drive and boot the system.
For PDP 11/53 systems, press
CTRL+C
.
For all other systems, press
CTRL+P
.
The following menu displays:
[Help, Boot, List, Setup, Map, Test]
6. Boot the system by selecting Boot. Type
B
and
press
<RETURN>
.
The system prompts you as follows:
ENTER THE DEVICE NAME AND UNIT
NUMBER FROM WHICH THE SYSTEM WILL
BOOT, THEN PRESS THE RETURN KEY.
If the tape you are using is a TK25 cartridge,
then type
MS0:
and press
<RETURN>
.
If the tape you are using is a TK50 cartridge,
then type
MU0:
and press
<RETURN>
.
7. When the system has finished booting, the
system prompts you for CSR and vector
addresses for the tape drive you are using. The
following prompt displays:
ENTER FIRST DEVICE:
If you are using a TK25 tape cartridge, then type
MS0: /CSR=172522/VEC=224
and press
<RETURN>
If you are using a TK50 tape, then type
MU0: /CSR=174500/VEC=260
and press
<RETURN>
.
8. The system prompts you for the CSR and vector
addresses for the system's Winchester
ENTER SECOND DEVICE:
Type
DU0: /CSR = 172150/VEC = 154
and
press
<RETURN>
.
9. The following time prompt displays:
Hit RETURN and enter date and time as
TIM HH:MM MM/DD/YY’
Respond to the time prompt by entering the time
and date. Use the following format:
TIM HH:MM MM/DD/YY <RETURN>
where:
HH = hours 00 through 23 (24 hour clock)
MM = minutes 00 through 59
DD = day 01 through 31
MM = month 01 through 12
YY = year 98, 99, 00, etc.
Be sure to enter the colons (:) between the
hours and minutes, add a space between the
time and date, and add slashes (/) between the
day, month, and year.
10. Type
RUN BRU
and press
<RETURN>
.
Wait for the BRU prompt (BRU >), then unload
and remove the Revision K.0 Bootable Loading
Tape.
11. You are now ready to load the Revision K.0
system from the streamer tape to the hard disk.
Insert and load the Revision K.0 Master tape in
the tape drive.
