RL02 Systems
Required Tools
• Master disk(s) from Home Office for the
particular PDP-11 that is being upgraded
(e.g., 11/24)
• Spare RL02 disks for backup (4 disks for
dual disk system)
• Revision K.0 release notes
• The color coded labels attached to these
installation instructions
Color Coding
The following colors are used throughout this
procedure to reference the various disks.
Red
Old primary disk
Blue
Old secondary disk
Green
New primary disk
Yellow
New secondary disk
Installation Procedure
NOTE:
If your system is a dual disk system and
you did not receive a two-disk Master for
this type of system (11/24), then you must
contact the Home Office for new disks.
Do
not attempt the Revision K.0 conversion!
1. Log onto an MCR terminal.
2. Shut down the system. Type @[10,1]KILL and
press <RETURN>.
3. Back up the old system:
If the system is a single disk system, then type
@[3,352]BRUVERIFY and press <RETURN>.
If the system is a dual disk system, then type
@[3,352]DUAL and press <RETURN>.
4. When the backup procedure is complete, HALT
the system and mark the BRU'D copies with the
following color labels:
• Primary disk: RED.
• Secondary disk (dual disk systems only):
BLUE.
5. Place the
new
(Revision K.0 Master) primary
disk in drive DL0. If this is a dual disk set, then
place the secondary Revision K.0 master disk in
drive DL1. Boot the system and wait for the
following time prompt to appear:
PLEASE ENTER TIME AND DATE
(HR:MN:SC DD-MMM-YY)
6. When the time prompt appears, abort the
startup. If a battery backup clock is installed,
then wait for the clock to answer the time prompt
before aborting the start-up. To abort the
startup, do the following:
Press CTRL+C
Type ABO AT. and press <RETURN>.
If the time prompt displays again, continue to
Step 7.
PLEASE ENTER TIME AND DATE
(HR:MN:SC DD-MMM-YY)
If the time prompt does not display again, move
to Step 8.
7. At the time prompt, type the time and date using
the following format:
HR:MN:SC DD-MMM-YY <RETURN>
where:
HR = hours 00 through 23 (24 hour clock)
MN = minutes 00 through 59
SC = seconds 00 through 59
DD = day 01 through 31
MMM = month JAN, FEB, MAR, APR, MAY,
JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV, or DEC
YY = year 98, 99, 00, etc.
Be sure to type the colons (:) between the hours,
minutes, and seconds, add a space between the
time and date, and add dashes (-) between the
day, month, and year.
8. Back up the
new
system.
• If the system is a single disk system, then
type @[3,352]BRUVERIFY and press
<RETURN>.
• If the system is a dual disk system, then
type @[3,352]DUAL and press
<RETURN>.
9. When the backup procedure is complete, HALT
the system and mark the BRU'D copies with the
following color labels:
• Primary disk: GREEN.
