For the Tester
NRCA-MCH13A (Revised 6/17) section C (Functional Testing for Zone Terminal Units)
contains 7 steps/tests which can result in 3 possible BACnet Point alarm/fault. Please
note that steps 1-6 result in a fault being reported via one of the 3 possible BACnet
Point faults. Step 7 tests functionality and will not result in a fault alarm.
Test #
Test Description
1
Sensor Drift/failure
2
Damper/Actuator fault – damper stuck open
3
Damper/Actuator fault – damper stuck closed
4
Valve/Actuator fault (for system with HW reheat)
5
Feedback loop tuning fault (unstable airflow)
6
Disconnected inlet duct
7
Discharge air temp sensor
Note: If you have an extract airflow tracking at the zone level, the following tests should
be run: 1,2,3,5 and 6.
For extract airflow tests, replace "SU" with "EX"
Example: SUFLOW FLT replace with EXFLOW FLT, etc.
For Dual duct tests, each duct is designated Duct 1 or Duct 2.
Example: SUFLOW FLT replace with SU1FLOW FLT, SU2FLOW FLT etc.
Unstable airflow fault will be set to Fault after the configured number of cycles occur
within the position change time limit. For all other faults, delay fault time must be met
before Fault is detected.
Test 1: Sensor Drift/Failure – Supply air differential
pressure
Disconnect tubing and monitor SU FLOW FLT. No commands are necessary.
When Supply air flow is less than the Supply air setpoint by the airflow fault tolerance
for the air flow fault delay, the SU FLOW FLT will be set to Low Flow.
Note: Supply flow setpoint must be larger than the configured air flow fault tolerance,
otherwise a zero differential pressure will not result in a fault.
Test 2: Supply air damper fault – damper stuck open
Command damper to fully open by commanding DAMPER POS. Disconnect actuator
and adjust the room temperature cooling setpoint (as needed to remove cooling load)
by commanding the RM TEMP SHFT. With the damper full open, the High flow fault
will be detected when the Supply air flow is greater than the Supply air flow setpoint by
the configured airflow fault tolerance. SU FLOW FLT will be set to Hi Flow.
Test 3: Supply air damper fault – damper stuck closed
Command damper to fully close by commanding DAMPER POS. Disconnect actuator
and adjust room temperature cooling setpoint by commanding the RM TEMP SHFT as
