3.2.4 Determining flow temperature heating setpoint based on
predictive, model-based optimization
Advantages:
Optimum switch-on reduces pump runtime in the heat-up phase
Early switch-off of the plant without sacrificing comfort
Improved control response
Less noise
Forecasting the future room temperature setpoint profile, the outside temperature
forecast as well as a building model allows for calculating an optimum flow
temperature setpoint profile to maintain future room temperature setpoints at
minimum energy costs based on numeric optimization. The fact that flow
temperature setpoints have a high limit (predefinable maximum) and a low limit (no
cooling possible) is included in the calculation.
Figure 3-2 shows an example for an optimization result. The optimization horizon
(forecast period) is 64 hours and thus covers the weekend. The first element (flow
temperature for first interval) from the optimized flow temperature profile is used as
flow temperature setpoint. Optimization is repeated periodically at 15-minute
periods.
