30 Chapter 4
Applying Hardware Settings to XMU+ Line Cards
Understanding Line Card Population Rules
The XMU+ small chassis has one slot for placement of a line card, while the XMU+ large
chassis has eight slots for line card placement.
Line cards have associated population rules that determine the slots in which they can be placed in
the XMU+ unit. Installing more than the advised number of line cards, or installing a line card in an
invalid slot, could cause the XMU+ system to fail.
Small Chassis: Maximum of one (1) card of any type.
Large Chassis:
Maximum of four (4) MOH cards @ 8ohm or eight (8) @ 600 ohm.
Maximum of two (2) T1 cards in an XMU+ large chassis.
T1 cards can only be placed in the 1st and 5th slots, since they control not only the slot
they are placed in, but also the following 3 slots.
For example, when a T1 card is plugged into slot 5, it controls slots 5 to 8, but slots 1 to 4
are still available for other line cards. If T1 line cards are placed in both slot 1 and slot 5,
no other cards can be added.
Maximum of eight (8) Hybrid Analog line cards.
Usually, unusable slots display a faceplate with the following warning sticker:
