Implementing LLDP-MED
Link Layer Discovery Protocol-Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP-MED) is an enhancement to the Link
Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) that addresses the following aspects:
Device location discovery to support location databases and VoIP E911 services
Auto-discovery of LAN policies to support “plug and play” networking
Extended and automated power management of PoE endpoints
Inventory management
Implementing LLDP-MED requires network switches that support the protocol.
ShoreTel implements LLDP-MED through the following methods:
By setting a parameter on ShoreTel IP phones:
On ShoreTel 100-, 200-, 500-, and 600-Series IP phones, you can enable or disable LLDP-
MED through the LLDP Enable option, which you can access through MUTE 73887#
(SETUP#). The default is “On” (enabled).
On ShoreTel 400-Series IP phones, you can enable or disable LLDP-MED through the Use
LLDP-MED option available in the Admin options > Network policy menu, which you can
access through MUTE 73887# (SETUP#). The default is “On” (enabled).
By modifying configuration settings. When setting up ShoreTel IP phones, parameter settings are
obtained from the following sources, listed in order of highest to lowest precedence:
