Preparing to Upgrade from Windows 2008 R2 32-bit or 64-bit to
Windows 2012 64-bit
Upgrading your Windows Server 32-bit operating system to a Windows Server 64-bit operating system
can cause your ShoreTel switches to not re-connect. To ensure a seamless migration without
disruptions in your telephone services, you must make sure that your entire ShoreTel installation is
compatible with the Windows Server 64-bit operating system.
Be aware that after the ShoreTel software is installed on the server, the server is considered a
Telephony Appliance. As a Telephony Appliance, it does not adhere to the same policies, procedures,
or security as a data server.
Before upgrading the server operating system, perform the following intermediate steps; otherwise, the
ShoreTel switches will not reconnect and connectivity will be lost.
1. Make sure ShoreTel server software version 12 (Build Number 16.5.8506.0) or later is installed on
the Headquarters server and all Distributed servers in the system.
2. Reboot all switches in the system.
3. Confirm that all half-width switches in the ShoreTel network are running Uboot version 1.1.3.27 or
higher (see Viewing the Uboot Version Information for a Switch on page 230).
Uboot version 1.1.3.27 or higher supports FTP service on both port 150 (for the 64-bit OS) and
port 125 (for the 32-bit OS).
4. See Upgrading Servers from Windows 2003 32-bit to Windows 2008 R2 32-bit or 64-bit on page
225 for more details on upgrading from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit).
Upgrading the Uboot Version
ShoreTel 12 (Build 16.5.8506.0) or higher automatically updates the Uboot code on the Voicemail
Model Switches (voice switches that also provide voicemail—the ShoreTel Voice Switch 90V, for
example) as part of the installation.
If you have a ShoreTel VxWorks-based switch (not a voice mailbox switch), you must update the Uboot
version to 1.1.3.27 (see Upgrading the Uboot Version on page 231).
Viewing the Uboot Version Information for a Switch
1. Launch Director and then click Quick Look.
2. Under Sites, click a site to view.
3. Under Switch/Appliance, click the switch to view.
Note
For new installations of the 64-bit OS, you do not need to prepare the server (the steps below are not
necessary).
