DynamicDNSorDDNSisatermusedfortheupdatinginreal
timeofInternetDomainNameSystem(DNS)nameservers.Weuse
anumericIPaddress allocatedbyInternetServiceProvider(ISP)to
connecttoInternet;theaddressmay eitherbestable("static"), or
may change from one session on the Internet to the ne
xt
("dynamic"). However, a numeric address is inconvenient to
remember; an address which changes unpredictably makes
connection impossible. The DDNS provider allocates a static host
nametotheuser;whenevertheuserisallocatedanewIPaddress
thisiscommunicatedtotheDDNSproviderbysof
twarerunningon
a computer or network device at that address; the provider
distributestheassociationbetweenthehostnameandtheaddress
totheInternet'sDNSserverssothattheymayresolveDNS queries.
Thus,uninterruptedaccesstodevices and serviceswhosenumeric
IPaddressmaychangeismaintained.
