Getting Started Phone Setup Installing the micro-SIM Card and Battery Power off your phone before installing or replacing the battery or micro-SIM card. Remove the back cover as shown. Insert the micro-SIM card into the card slot with the cut corner oriented as shown. Insert the microSDHC™ (sold separately) with the gold-colored contacts facing down. Carefully insert the battery with the contacts located against the metal springs. Push down on the battery until it is fully seated.
Charging the Battery Note: For best performance, charge the battery fully prior to using the phone for the first time. Insert the charger’s connector into the charging port. Be sure to insert the connector in the correct orientation. Do not force the connector into the port. Plug the charger into a standard AC wall outlet. When the battery is fully charged, unplug the charger and disconnect it from the phone.
Getting Around Get to Know Your Phone Touch Control Headset jack Light & proximity sensors Earpiece Use the touch screen to control your phone. The controls on your touchscreen change dynamically depending on the tasks you’re performing. Tap the buttons, icons, or applications to select items or to open applications. Keep your finger on an item to see the available options. Swipe the screen to scroll up, down, left, or right. Drag and drop to move particular items across the screen.
Key Functions Key Power Key Home Key Menu Key Back Key Volume Keys 6 Home Screens Function Press and hold to turn phone on/off, change sound setting to silent/vibration/sound, set to Airplane mode, or to restart the phone. Press to switch your phone to Sleep Mode. Press to wake up your phone. Press to return to the main home screen from any application or screen. Press and hold to access Google Now. Press to see the options for the current screen. Press and hold to see recently used applications.
Tap OK (for Gallery images) or Set wallpaper. Note: Live wallpapers and Photos are not available for the lock screen. Adding Items to Your Home Screen Tap and hold a blank part of the home screen and tap Widgets or Apps. Tap and hold the icon of the item you wish to add and then drag it to a home screen thumbnail at the bottom. Status and Notification icons Your phone will tell you exactly what’s going on by showing you simple icons. Here’s what they mean.

Phone Calls Calling from Your Call History How to Make Calls There are many ways to make a call with your phone, and they’re all easy to do. Calling from a Text Message If a text message contains a phone number that you want to call, you can make the call while viewing the text message. From the home screen, tap . Tap the conversation and then the message that contains the phone number you need. Tap the number. Tap Call. Calling from the Dialer From the home screen, tap > .
Tap Mute to turn your microphone off. To turn your microphone back on, tap Mute again. Putting a Call on Hold During a call, you can put it on hold by tapping More > Hold. Tip: If you accept an incoming call while you’re on another call, the first call automatically goes on hold. Tap More > Swap to switch between the two callers. Turning the Speakerphone On/Off Tap Speaker during a call to turn the speakerphone on. Tap Speaker again to turn off the speakerphone.
Adjusting Your Call Settings (continued) TTY mode Choose a TTY mode after connecting the TTY device to the phone’s headset port. A TTY device can allow people who have hearing or speech disabilities to communicate by telephone. Additional settings Hearing aids Turn on/off hearing aid compatibility. When you turn on the hearing aid compatibility and use a hearing aid with a Telecoil to answer the phone, it will help you hear more clearly during the phone call.
Contacts You can add contacts on your phone and synchronize them with the contacts in your Google account or other accounts that support contact syncing. To see your contacts, tap on the home screen. From there, you can tap the tabs on the top to quickly switch to Favorites or Groups. Importing and Exporting Contacts You can import or export contacts from/to your micro-SIM card, or microSDHC card. This is especially useful when you need to transfer contacts between different devices.
Tap Entering Text next to the contact’s name. Searching for a Contact Tap the search box at the top of the Contacts screen. Enter the contact name you want to search for. Matching contacts will be listed. Creating a New Group From the Contacts screen, tap . Tap . If you have added contact accounts other than the phone, tap to choose an account for the new group. Enter the group name. Tap Add member and select the contacts you wish to be the group members.
• Tap to delete any text you have entered. •T ap to select numbers and symbols. You can then tap access more. •T ap to enter miniature icons, such as expressions, astrological signs, and animals. • Tap to use Google’s networked voice input. • Tap and hold and then release it to change the input language or the Google keyboard settings. to TouchPal X Keyboard The TouchPal X keyboard offers three layouts: T+, T12, and T26. To Switch the Keyboard Layout Tap to select a layout.
The T12 layout To Enable and Use TouchPal Curve® Tap a key repeatedly until the desired letter or symbol appears. If word prediction is enabled ( ), just tap the keys once and choose the right word. On the TouchPal X keyboard screen, tap and check the box next to Curve® - Word gesture and tap OK. Move your finger from letter to letter on the keyboard to trace a word without lifting the finger until you reach the end of the word. Note: TouchPal Curve is only available in the T26 layout.
Messaging Your SMS (text message) and MMS (multimedia message) are combined into one menu under . Message Box Instead of an inbox and outbox your phone organizes all messages you sent and received into one box, where messages exchanged with the same number are grouped into one message thread on the Messaging screen. You can tap a thread to see the conversation you have had with someone. Message threads are sorted in chronological order with the latest one on top.
Display settings: •B ubble and background: Set the appearance of message bubble and background. Notification settings: •N otifications: Show message notifications in the status bar. •S elect ringtone: Choose a ringtone for your incoming messages. •V ibrate: Make your phone vibrate when a new message arrives. Signature settings: •E dit signature: Edit your signature, which can be added automatically to outgoing messages. •A dd signature: Add the signature to all outgoing messages.
Composing and Sending an Email Deleting an Email Account After creating an email account, you can compose and send email messages. From your inbox, tap . Tap the To field and enter the recipient’s address or tap to select a contact or group. When you enter the address, matching contacts on the phone will be displayed. Separate each recipient with a comma. Tip: You can also press Add Cc/Bcc to add more recipients. Enter the subject and the content of your email.
Connecting to the Internet Turning on Wi-Fi Your phone’s impressive networking capabilities allow you to access the Internet or your corporate network with ease. You can use default connection settings to connect to the web via your mobile network (GSM/UMTS/LTE) or Wi-Fi. The GSM/UMTS/ LTE connection can be enabled/disabled manually. From the home screen, press System settings Mobile networks and check or uncheck the Data enabled check box.
Browsing the Internet Your phone has two options for Internet access. Use the Browser or Google Chrome to view web pages and search for information. From the home screen, tap . Opening a Web Page • Tap the address bar, enter the website you want to browse, and tap Go. • Tap beside the address bar or press Bookmarks. Tap a bookmark to open it. • Press Bookmarks. Choose an item from the HISTORY tab or SAVED PAGES tab.
Tap and hold the bookmark you want to delete until the shortcut menu pops up. Tap Delete bookmark OK. Changing Browser Settings Press settings. Settings from a browser window to change browser Bluetooth Bluetooth is a short-range wireless communication technology. Phones or other devices with Bluetooth capabilities can exchange information wirelessly within a distance of about 32 feet (10 meters). The Bluetooth devices must be paired before the communication is performed.
Notes: • The Bluetooth passkey may be fixed for certain devices, such as headsets or hands-free car kits. You can try entering 0000 or 1234 (the most common passkeys), or refer to the documents for that device. • To allow compatible Bluetooth devices to find your phone for pairing, tap Z830 on the Bluetooth settings screen. Your device will be visible for 2 minutes. Entertainment Taking Pictures with Your Camera Your phone has a 5-megapixel camera. From the home screen, tap .
Adjusting Camera Settings (continued) Picture size Choose the size of the photo. Shutter tone Turn the shutter tone on or off. Sharing a Picture After taking a picture, tap the thumbnail in the corner of the screen, tap the screen, and then tap . If the icon is not visible, tap the screen first. Scroll through options to send via text messaging or email, Picasa™, and more. Opening Your Gallery Gallery helps you view pictures and play videos.
Shooting Video with Your Camcorder From the home screen, tap . Zoom in or out by pressing either Volume Key. Tap to begin recording and to stop. Tap the video thumbnail in the corner of the screen to view the video you’ve just taken. Tip: Take a still photo while recording by tapping . Adjusting Your Video Settings Before recording a video, you can tap following camcorder settings. to open the Video quality Choose the video quality as 1280×720, 720×480, 640×480, or MMS Video.
Adding Music to Your Phone Playing Your Music You can add music to your phone’s internal storage or to a removable microSDHC card (see Phone Setup). Note: Steps may vary depending on your operating system. Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable. Tap Media device (MTP). Note: If you have a microSDHC card in your phone, you may be presented with additional options. Open the Notifications panel and tap Connected as an installer Media device (MTP).
Making Memorable Memos Creating Playlists Playlists help you organize your music files. Tap next to the song in the music library. Tap Add to playlist. Tap New. Type the playlist name and tap Save. Sound Recorder enables you to record your voice memos. From the home screen, tap Sound Recorder. Tap to start recording. Tap to stop recording or tap OK to cancel recording. Tap to play the memo. Tip: You can find your recordings by tapping My records.
Applications Kingsoft Office Clock From the home screen, tap Clock. Tap a default alarm to configure it or tap to create a new alarm. Set up the alarm options, such as time, repeat, and alarm sound. Tap SAVE to save and exit. Tap next to an alarm to turn on the alarm. Calculator From the home screen, tap Calculator. Tip: Tap or to open the tip calculator. You can also turn the phone to landscape to see all of the calculator buttons. File Manager From the home screen, tap File Manager.
Tip: If your phone is running slow, close applications you are not using by pressing and holding and swiping left or right on applications you wish to close. Timer From the home screen, tap Clock Stopwatch or Countdown. Note: You can set up to 20 laps with the stopwatch. Twitter From the home screen, tap sign in to your account. Tap to compose a tweet. Twitter and sign up for or Signing in to your Google account lets you synchronize Gmail, Calendar, and Contacts between your phone and the web.
Gmail Google Play Store Gmail is a web-based email service that’s configured when you sign in to your Google account. Depending on your synchronization settings, the Gmail on your phone can be automatically synchronized with your Gmail account on the web. Google Play Store gives you access to thousands of free and paid apps, games, books and magazines, music, and movies. From the home screen, tap Play Store. Creating and Sending an Email Through Gmail From the home screen, tap Google Gmail. Tap .
Using Google Calendar Google+ From the home screen, tap Calendar to use Google Calendar, Google’s time management application. You can use the calendar to schedule appointments, including meetings and other events. Your appointments will be displayed on the screen as they are scheduled. You can also synchronize appointments to your Google account, which enables you to manage your schedule online on your PC. Connect with friends and family via Google’s social networking site.
Phone Settings Mobile Network Services From the home screen, press System settings Mobile networks to enable or disable data service, allow data services when roaming, or set access point names for data access. Note: Data roaming may incur significant roaming charges. Sound Settings From the home screen, press System settings Sound to adjust volumes, toggle sound and mute, set up ringtone and notification sound, and select system sounds.
•U nmount/Mount SD card: You can unmount the microSDHC card to safely remove it, or mount the card. •E rase external SD card: Erase all data on the microSDHC card. Note: You must sign in or create a Google account on your phone before using the preceding method to reset the pattern. Security Settings Creating a PIN or Password From the home screen, press System settings Security Screen lock. Tap PIN or Password. Enter a numeric PIN or any password you like, and tap Continue.
From the home screen, press Security Screen lock. System settings Draw the screen unlock pattern or enter the PIN/password you have created. Tap Next None. Setting Up Credential Storage This lets you select applications to access secure certificates and other credentials. Enabling Secure Credentials From the home screen, press System settings Security. Tap Install from SD card to install certificates from your microSDHC card.
WARNING! All your personal information and downloaded applications on your phone will be erased after resetting the phone. Managing Other Settings Search Settings From the home screen, tap Settings. You can set searchable items. Google Google Voice Interaction From the home screen, press System settings Language & input Voice Search or Text-to-speech output to set text-to-speech and voice recognition options.
For Your Safety General Safety Don’t make or receive handheld calls while driving. And never text while driving. Keep your phone at least half an inch (15 mm) away from your ear or body while making calls. Small parts may cause choking. Your phone can produce a loud sound. Keep away from pacemakers and other electronic medical devices. Power off when asked to in hospitals and medical facilities. Power off when told to in aircrafts and airports. 64 Don’t use at gas stations.
FCC Regulations This mobile phone complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. It is important to try the different features of this phone thoroughly and in different locations, using your hearing aid or cochlear implant, to determine if you hear any interfering noise. Consult your service provider or the manufacturer of this phone for more information on hearing aid compatibility. If you have questions about return or exchange policies, consult your service provider or phone retailer.
Product Handling •D o not expose your phone or its accessories to liquid, moisture, or high humidity. •D o not drop, throw, or try to bend your phone or its accessories. • Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or aerosols to clean the device or its accessories. • Do not paint your phone or its accessories. • Do not attempt to disassemble your phone or its accessories. Only authorized personnel can do so.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Seizures/Blackouts Do not touch the SIM card’s metal connectors. The phone can produce a bright or flashing light. A small percentage of people may be susceptible to blackouts or seizures (even if they have never had one before) when exposed to flashing lights or light patterns such as when playing games or watching video. If you have experienced seizures or blackouts or have a family history of such occurrences, please consult a physician.
Phone Heating Pacemakers Your phone may become warm during charging and during normal use. Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of 6 inches (15 cm) be maintained between a mobile phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. To achieve this, use the phone on the opposite ear to your pacemaker and do not carry it in a breast pocket. Electrical Safety Accessories Use only approved accessories. Do not connect with incompatible products or accessories.
Aircraft Power off your wireless device whenever you are instructed to do so by airport or airline staff. Consult the airline staff about the use of wireless devices on board the aircraft. If your device offers a ‘flight mode’, this must be enabled prior to boarding an aircraft.
Warranty ZTE offers you a limited warranty that the enclosed subscriber unit and its enclosed accessories will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period that expires one year from the date of sale of the Product to you, provided that you are the original end user purchaser of the Product and provided that your purchase was made from a supplier authorized by the Seller. Transfer or resale of a Product will automatically terminate warranty coverage with respect to that Product.
