Forpr
operEthernetcommunications,bothendsoftheconnection(e.g.LPUandrouter)musthaveidenticalIP
addressesexceptforthelastthreedigits,whichmustbeunique.Forexample,192.168.1.100willcommunicate
successfullywith192.168 . 1.99.
WhenaTC
Uispresentinadualdrivesystem,thesettingsoftheLPUrearRJ45connectorarelocked.Thisallowsthe
LPUtoremaininpermanentcontactwiththeTCUandforwarditsinternalwebpagestotheTCUGUIscreen.
Note
A 1:1 connection to a personal computer could be made to the rear RJ45 port, but it would require manu-
ally setting the PC and LPU addresses to acceptable values
. A crossover cable would also be required if
the PC did not auto-detect cross connection.
2.13.1.1 LPUEthernetAccessProcedure
STEP 1 ConnectanEthernetcablebetweentheLPUfrontRJ45connectorandaPCor
theLPUrearRJ45connectorandtheexistingnetwork.
STEP 2 ForafrontRJ451:1PCconnection,performthesestepstorenewtheIP
addressofthePC:

The instructions given in this section are for the Windows XP operating system and may require minor
adaptations for the Windows 7 or 8 operating systems.
a. SelectStart>RunwiththePCmouse.TheRunwindowshouldopen.
b. Type’cmdintherunwindowandpresstheOKbutton.Thecmd.exewindowwillopen.
c. Type’ipconfig/release’andpresstheEnterkey .Thiswi lldisassociatethecomputerfromtheprevious
Ethernetnetworktowhichitwasconnected.
d. Type’ipconfig/renew’andpresstheEnterkey .ThisassociatesthecomputerwiththeLPUfrontpanel
RJ45Ethernetconnector.TheLPUwillassignanaddresstothecomputerof192.168.117.yyy,whereyyy
rangesfrom129to135.
e. VerifythenewIPaddress,type’ipconfig/all’andpresstheEnterkey.ThenewlyassignedIPaddresswill
appear.
STEP 3
ForarearRJ45connectiontoanexistingnetwork,theLPUwillautomatically
obtainanIPaddressifDHCPhasbeenenabledonboththeLPUandthe
network.Otherwise,manuallysetanappropriatestaticIPaddressviathe

Note
Some network switches utilizing secure connections will require the MAC address to be given to the switch
to allow traffic to pass to and from it. The MAC address can be found just above the IP address field.
