Setting the 9840 Write Protect Switch
You can set the write protect switch so that the cartridge is read-only (nothing
can be written on the tape). Hold the cartridge with the customer label side up
and the VOLSER label toward you as shown in Figure A-17. Move the write
protect switch to the front of the cartridge (away from you) to the write protect
position. In this position, the drive can only read data from the tape and can not
write data.
You can set the write protect switch so that the cartridge is write enabled. Move
the write protect switch to the back of the cartridge (toward you) to the write
enable position. In this position, the drive can write as well as read data. This
setting is recommended when entering cartridges into the LSM.
