Close-up with multiple flash
The AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8D provides up to 1:1 life-size reproduction. Here,
two SB-800s were used. One was connected to the SC-28 remote cord for
overhead lighting. This light is also reflected off the colour card at the bottom.
The other Speedlight provided the background illumination.

Remote control
Another great benefit of Nikon Capture 4
software is that it lets you fire the D100 remotely
from your computer. In a studio situation, you can
connect your camera to an AC outlet and shoot
until there’s no space on your hard drive.
On location, you can power up your batteries and
shoot to either memory or your laptop in a similar
fashion. Capture 4 even offers a Time Lapse
Photography function, which allows you to take a
number of pictures with a fixed time delay
between each one.
With the Nikon D100, you don’t just
have a great digital SLR, you have
access to the comprehensive excel-
lence of Nikon’s Total Imaging System
at your fingertips. This incomparable
selection of tools, which encompass-
es Nikkor optics, Nikon Speedlights
and remote control systems, Close-up
Systems and exclusive Nikon
software, can provide you with the
backup you need to realise your
personal photographic vision.
With the D100, you have an exciting
selection of AF Nikkor optics from
which to choose for razor-sharp
images, superb colour and consistent-
ly excellent autofocus performance.
When you attach any AF Nikkor lens
to the D100, the camera automatically
identifies the lens, and makes
adjustments for optimal performance
— only AF Nikkor lenses provide
this benefit.
DX Nikkors
DX Nikkors, including AF-S DX 12-24mm,
AF-S DX 17-55mm, AF-S DX 18-70mm and
AF DX Fisheye 10.5mm are designed
exclusively for use with Nikon digital SLRs
to provide Nikon digital SLR owners with
greater wideangle covering power.
Convenient, high-performance
AF Zoom-Nikkors
Nikon offers over a dozen AF Zoom-Nikkors. The
wideangle AF-S 17-35mm is great for landscape and
travel photography, while the 80-400mm telephoto
zoom is ideal for sports and action. VR Nikkors such like
AF Nikkor Optics
200mm f/4) enable 1:1 life-size shooting.
The AF Zoom-Micro 70-180mm allows
you to adjust perspective and reproduc-
tion ratios up to 1:1.3. The PC Micro
85mm f/2.8 (1:2 life-size) is equipped with
a tilt/shift mechanism that lets you con-
trol image perspective, distortion and
focus. This lens is ideal for tabletop com-
mercial photography and excels when
using Nikon’s TTL flash control system.
The SB-800 Speedlight is compatible
with D-TTL control, and features a tilt-
rotate flash head, a built-in wide flash
adaptor for 14mm flash coverage, a
guide number of 53 (ISO 200, m at
35mm). Diffusion Dome SW-10H for
creating soft lighting, Quick Recycling
Battery Pack SD-800 for shorter
recycling time, Speedlight Colour
Filter Set SJ-800 for tungsten or
fluorescent lighting, and Speedlight
Stand AS-19 are the accessories
supplied for the SB-800.
Using the compact SB-600
Speedlight, you can do bounce flash,
close-up and use the built-in wide
flash adaptor for 14mm wideangle coverage.
Nikon’s multiple-flash system offers
more possibilities
Nikon’s professional-quality multiple-flash system
makes creative lighting easy. Choose any
combination of Nikon
Speedlights with your D100
camera. For off-camera shoot-
ing, use the TTL remote cord
SC-28/29. For multiple flash units,
choose Multi-Flash Sync Cords SC-
26/27 with Sync Terminal Adaptor
AS-15. You’ll be amazed at what you
can do with image depth, character
and tone when you shoot with
multiple Nikon flash
units. Topping off the
selection, the SB-800
and SB-600 can be
used as wireless slave
units under manual and
non-TTL auto control.
Use Nikon Speedlights
for creative flash shooting
Nikon’s View and Capture 4 software
provides tightly knit operation that stakes out
Nikon’s place in your workflow. Following
Capture 4 operations, you may wish to move
your image into a full-featured creative soft-
ware application such as Photoshop
™
. The
move from Capture requires only a click on
Capture 4’s transfer icon. Nikon’s workflow
performance provides essential power to
maximise the power of Nikon Electronic
Format (NEF) files!
Nikon Capture 4 software is a powerful post-
production tool, giving you comprehensive
personal control over your final images, espe-
cially NEF. The intuitively designed interface
lets you down-
load, display and
modify images
and even remote-
ly control camera
operations. Use
Capture 4 to
enhance the
images you’ve
taken with the
D100 to reflect
your personal
photographic
vision.
Nikon Capture 4 software —
simply indispensable
Perfect the image in postproduction
Nikon Capture 4 is essential in realising the full
power of the Nikon Electronic Format. Nikon Capture
4’s extensive suite of advanced features can also be
used with JPEG and TIFF, but once you use NEF —
except for specific technical reasons — you’ll rarely
use another format.
Attributes of NEF image data including White
Balance, Exposure Compensation, Sharpening, Tone
Compensation, Colour Mode and Hue can be
adjusted. For NEF images, the Image Dust Off feature
minimises particle shade caused by dust on the
image sensor, and Vignette Control compensates for
vignetting at the peripheral areas.
Image-enhancement features including Curves, LCH
Editor, Colour Balance, Colour Booster and Colour
Moire Reduction are applicable to images of all
formats. Fisheye-to-Rectilinear image transformation
allows you to convert images captured with an AF
DX Fisheye-Nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8G ED lens to
either of two ultra-wideangle image modes.
Digital DEE
™
helps reveal obscured details
while achieving overall exposure balance. You
can selectively apply Unsharp Mask, while
Size/Resolution allows you to adjust the final
output image size. Batch Processing is now faster
and more efficient.
An exciting new feature of Nikon Capture 4 is
compatibility with nik Color Efex 2.0’s powerful,
versatile plug-in digital photographic filters,
which greatly augment image enhancement
and transformation capability.
200-400mm minimised image blur caused by camera
shake. There are also compact, high-power zoom
lenses like the 24-120mm (5x) or 28-200mm (7x) AF
Zoom-Nikkors.
Extensive range of wideangle and
telephoto Nikkors
Wideangle Nikkors are ideal for many applications
including travel, landscape and commercial photogra-
phy. The 14mm, 18mm and 20mm f/2.8 offer the
widest views. The 24mm f/2.8 and 28mm f/1.4 are
the fastest of the group. The 16mm Fisheye’s unique
barrel distortion provides a very special perspective.
Telephoto AF-S Nikkors cover a focal length range of
200mm to 600mm, and combine extraordinary optics
with fast, quiet autofocus operation. Portrait photogra-
phers will love the 105mm and 135mm AF DC-
Nikkors. Both feature fast f/2 apertures and Nikon’s
exclusive Defocus-image Control.
Micro Nikkor for close-ups
