1) The Repair Technician
There are three levels
of
repair technicians:
A,
B, and
C.
Each level
is
based
on
the
l
evel
of
knowledge abo
ut
and
the
skills required
in
repairing the PTMPG printer.
Level
A:
This technician has little experience. He has general knowl·
edge
of
the
principles of operation and
stru
ct
ure
of
the
printer. He does
not
require extensive exper
ie
nce or skill.
F
or
example, suppose the
pr
i
nter
does
not
print. The l evel
A technicia n would first
ch
eck
to
see
if
the solenoid were
energizing.
If
necessary, he would replace it
or
repair the
driving circuit. If the solenoid were enegizing properly,
he would check the
battery
vo
ltage and,
if
neccessary,
recharge it.
level
B:
This technician has some
ex
perience.
He
should ha
ve
more
understanding
of
the principles
of
operation
and structure
of
the
printer
than
the
le
ve
l A technician.
He
knows how
to
disassemble and reassemble the
printer
and can use
measuring ins
truments
and
tools
to
repai r
it.
For example,
if the
printer
were
not
working,
the
l evel B technician
could
check
the
same things
as
the
le
v
el
A technician. In
addition,
he
would measure
th
e length
of
the
p
en
and re-
place it
if
it were too short. He could check
the
actuator,
or
look for a broken spring in the solenoid,
and replace the
unit
if
necessary.
He
could also replace
th
e rotary
ho
lder
for the pen
if
it we
re
defective.
l evel c :
Th
is
technician
is
highly
exper
ienced. He shou
ld
ha
ve
de-
tailed knowledge of the p
rinCi
ples of operat ion and structure
of the printer, a h
igh
level
of
cap
abil ity in printer disas-
sembly and reassembl
y,
experience
wi
th
measuring instru·
ments and tools, and the
ab
ility
to
repair
all
parts
of
the
printer. The
le
vel
C technician would perform all of the
tasks
of
level
s A and B.
In
addition, he would replace
the ejection lever
if
it were bent, and replace the ejection
lever s
halt
unit
,
if
the bearing were defective.
