Polling
Storing polling passcodes
Polling passcodes are used for the polling security function. A polling passcode is the sender's fax
number that is programmed in a polling machine. By storing that number in your machine as a polling
passcode, the other machine is allowed to poll your machine. Up to 10 polling passcodes can be stored,
and each passcode can be up to 20 digits long.
Use the key operator program to store polling passcodes. (See page 162)
Check with operator of the other machine to make sure the sender's fax number is correct.
Programming your sender's number
In order to poll a machine that has polling security, your fax number must be programmed in your
machine. If your fax number is also stored in the other machine as a polling passcode, your machine will
be able to poll that machine.
Use the key operator program to program your fax number. (See page 147)
After you program your fax number, ask the operator of the other machine to store your fax number as
a polling passcode.
ID numbers
ID numbers provide another means of allowing polling when polling security is used. ID numbers can
only be used when the other machine is a Sharp machine that supports ID/system numbers. To allow
another machine to poll your machine, store the other machine's 4-digit system number as an ID-number
in your machine. Up to 10 ID numbers can be stored.
Use the key operator program to store an ID number. (See page 163)
Ask the operator of the other machine for its system number.
System numbers
The system number provides another means of gaining permission to poll a machine that has polling
security. The system number can only be used when the other machine is a Sharp machine that supports
ID/system numbers. Program a 4-digit number from 0000 to 9999 as a system number, and ask the
operator of the other machine to store the same number as an ID number. When your machine polls the
other machine, the other machine will check your system number against its ID numbers. If your system
number matches one of its ID numbers, polling will be allowed.
Use the key operator program to store an system number. (See page 164)
Ask the operator of the other machine to store your system number as an ID number.
Note
You can check your programmed polling passcodes, sender's fax number (own passcode), ID
numbers, and the system number by printing the passcode list. (See page 126)
