Loading Originals
Using the Platen Glass
In addition to sheet originals, originals that cannot be loaded in the SPF such as books, originals that
are glued together, and originals with cut-outs can be scanned from the platen glass.
1
Open the SPF and place the original on the platen glass.
Place the original face down. Align the edge of the original with the mark as
appropriate for its size.
2
Gently close the SPF.
3
Check the original size, resolution, and exposure in the message
screen (See pages 23, 24).
Notes
If the original is a standard size (11" x 17", 8-1/2" x 14", 8-1/2" x 11", 8-1/2" x 11"R, or 5-1/2" x
8-1/2"), the original size is automatically detected and displayed. 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" originals
cannot be automatically detected.
If you loaded a non-standard size original, make sure that the displayed original size is the
same size as the size you want to send. If the displayed size is smaller than the actual original
size, part of the original may not be transmitted. Use the original size setting (See page 23) to
select an original size that is larger than the actual original size. (In some cases, an original
size may not be displayed when you load a non-standard size original.)
