Starting the 7401 Scanner Motor and Laser
TheNCR7890andNCR7892Scannershaveabuiltindetectorthat
senseswhenanobjectisinfrontoftheunit.Whenanobjectisdetected,
itturnsthelaserandmotoronsoitcanscan.Thisdetectorisprovided
sothescannercanbeputintoa
lowpowerconsumptionstatewhen
theunitisnotinuse,permittingthescannertolastlongeranduseless
power.
The7401Scannerdoesnothaveadetector,butitdoesturnoffthe
motorandlaserafteraprogrammableperiodoftimecalledtheActive
Time.Thisperiod
oftimeisfromwhenthemotorandlaserarefirst
starteduntiltheyareautomaticallyturnedoff.TheActiveTimeisset
bydefaultto20secondsforthe7890and7892Scanner;to30seconds
forthe7401Scanner.
NCROPOSandtheFitClientplatformhandlethelackof
anintegrated
motiondetectorbyusingthe7401ʹsmotiondetectorlocatedunderthe
LCDscreen.TheNCROPOSdriverreceivesinformation(events)from
themotiondetectoronthefrontofthe7401todeterminewhenthe
scannershouldbestarted.
Note: Thisdetector,althoughgoodatdetectingsomeonewalkingup
tothe7401,maynotdetectsomeonewhohasbeenstandinginfrontof
the7401forawhileandthenpresentinganitembelowthe7401
Scannerforreading.
