mation,youwillneedtogroupsystemdrivesmanually(seeCreatingSD
GroupsManually,onpage36).Thestorageservercannotautomatically
groupSDsoncertainstoragesubsystems,because
thoseSDs(LUNs)are
notdirectlymanagedbythestorageserver.Becauseofthis,whenyouuse
theauto‐groupfeatureofthestorageserver,eachSDonthesestoragesub‐
systemswillbeplacedintoaseparategroup.
TheSMUcandeterminethephysicallocationofthesystemdriveif
itis
managingtherack.ThelistofmanagedrackscanbefoundintheRAID
Rackspage(Home>StorageManagement>RAIDRacks).
WhenyouclickOKtoconfirmtheauto‐grouprequest,theSMU
automaticallygroupsthesystemdriveslocatedonstoragebeingmanaged
bytheSMU.
TheSMUdoesthefollowing:
•Checkseachexistingsystemdrivegrouptomakesureitiscorrect,
addingmissingsystemdrives,andremovingsystemdrivesthat
shouldnotbeinthatgroup.
•Placesallsystemdrivesnotingroupsintocorrectgroupsbasedon
theirlocationonthephysicaldisks.
•Ifyou
filltheʺPlaceeachsys temdriveinanindividualgroupʺ
checkboxontheAuto‐Groupdialog,theSMUplaceseachSDthatis
present,butinracksnotbeingmanagedbytheSMU,intoitsown
group.Todothis,theSMUfirstcheckstheSDstoseeifit
iscapableof
managingthestorage.Ifitcan,theSMUsetsthoseSDsasideanddoes
nothingtothem.(WhenthestorageisaddedtotheSMUfor
management,youcanthenauto‐groupthoseSDs.)TheSMUplaces
theremainingSDs(ifany)intoindividualgroups.
Ifnoneof
theRAID/volumegroupsonthestoragesubsystemusemorethana
singleSD,select“Placeeachsystemdriveinanindividualgroup”.
1. ClickOKtoautomaticallycreatetheSDgroups.
Creating SD
Groups Manually
BeforecreatingSDgroupsmanually,youmustfirstdeterminethephysical
locationofthesystemdrivesalongwiththeRAIDconfiguration.This
informationcanbeobtainedusingvariousthird‐partyapplications.Withthis
information,youcandeterminetheSDsthatareinthesameRAIDgroup,and
groupthemtogether.
The
followingstepsdescribehowtocreatesystemdrivegroupsmanually.
1. NavigatetotheSystemDrivesGrouppage(Home>Storage
Management>SystemDriveGroups).
