Removing TIM from a Heat Sink
If you plan re-use the heat sink with a replacement processor, you need to remove the TIM
from the heat sink.
Warning: Always wear gloves when performing this procedure to avoid direct skin contact with the
TIM, which is a potentially toxic material.
Tools/Parts Required:
Dry, lint-free cloth
Lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol
Gloves
Perform the following steps to remove the TIM from a heat sink:
1. Remove the heat sink from the socket and place the heat sink on a secure surface
with the bottom facing upward.
2. Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe any loose TIM pieces off of the heat sink.
