Chapter 3: Configuration Software and Utilities
Hot Keys
Use the keyboard’s numeric pad to enter numbers and symbols.
Power-on Self Test (POST)
Each time you turn on the system, the power-on self test (POST) starts running. POST
checks the baseboard and its processors, memory, keyboard, and most installed
peripheral devices. During the memory test, POST displays the amount of memory it is
ableto access andtest.Thelengthoftime neededtotestmemorydependson theamount
of memory installed. POST is stored in flash memory. POST runs in a manner similar to
the following:
1. Turn on your video monitor and system. After a few seconds, POST begins to run.
2. After the memory test, these screen prompts and messages appear:
Keyboard Detected
Mouse Initialized
Press <F2> to enter Setup
Note: If you do not press F2 and do not have a device with an OS loaded, the message
listed in step 2 remains for a few seconds while the boot process continues, and the
system beeps once. Then this message appears:
Operating System not found

Clear memory and reload the operating
systemthis is a system reset.
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Secure your system immediately. Ctrl+Alt+hotkey (Set your hot-key combination
with the SSU or Setup.)
Enter BIOS Setup during POST BIOS. F2
Abort memory test during BIOS POST. Esc (presswhileBIOSis updatingmemory size on
screen)
