BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Shut off mower and tractor. Remove belt shield fasteners and belt shields. Loosen gearbox slide plate bolts
and gear box adjustment bolt. Slide gearbox to the full forward position. Slip belts under gearbox sheave (item
8) and over center spindle sheave (item 9). Ensure that right-hand belt (item 7) is in the upper groove of
gearbox sheave and that left-hand belt (item 6) is in the lower groove of gearbox sheave. Slide gearbox to the
full rear position and adjust according to Belt Adjustment Procedure. Reinstall shields and shield fasteners.
Mnt-R-0274.
BELT ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE (11’ MODEL)
Adjust the tension in the drive belt (item 1) properly so that they deflect 3/4” when a force of approximately 10
pounds is applied.
Tighten drive belt by loosening one nut (item 2) and tightening other nut until belt is properly tensioned. Jam
the first Nut to hold adjustment.
NOTE: If more thread adjustment is needed loosen off and hook Spring (4) in next shorter Chain Link (3).
Replace the belt safety shields using wing nuts.
BELT INSTALLATION (11’ MODEL)
To replace drive belt (1), remove belt shields and loosen nuts (2). Loosen the nut (2). Disassemble tensioning
Spring noting location of all loose parts. Loosen front pair of gearbox mount retaining bolts. Remove rear
gearbox mount retaining bolts. Note location of shim washers if present so they can be reinstalled later. This
allows gearbox mount to be raised so belt can be inserted and removed between top of deck and gearbox
shaft. Once belt is in place on large drive sheave reinstall and tighten gearbox retaining hardware. Locate rear
of gearbox mount at the same elevation as it was before being removed. Reassembled tensioning Spring with
Chain. Route belt as shown in layout and set tension per adjustment procedure.
