Each new mask comprises the selected mask region, plus a set of
adjustments applied to that mask. You can change the adjustments
associated with the mask at a later date.
Standard masks
To apply a standard mask:
1. Select
Develop at the top of your workspace.
2. Click the Adjustments tab at the right of your workspace.
3.
Select Create mask from the top of the tab. The Mask
entry appears which can be opened by clicking Expand.
4. (Optional) Adjust the settings to suit your requirements. For
example, choose one of the following options:
o Size: The size of the mask brush.
o Feather: Use to control the softness of the brush
selection edge.
o Density: Controls the density of paint laid down as
you apply it, like "layering up" a brush then painting.
o Tolerance: Drag the slider right or left to increase or
decrease control.
o Edge detection: By default, mask painting intelligently
paints only to photo edges and not beyond. Edges are
highly contrasting adjacent pixels that delimit areas of
your photos, e.g., the horizon line between sky and
land.
