3.1. Setting up the Smart-Reach Wireless Network
A qualified IT administrator will be required to provide network information.
3.1.1. Network Topologies
The wireless network configuration involves multiple vehicles. Each vehicle will
have a WLAN mobile antenna and a Smart-Reach vehicle station installed
onboard. Another Smart-Reach unit will be installed in the yard office and serves
as the base station.
3.1.2. System Requirements
A computer with the following minimum requirements is required:
• a serial port
• a terminal program such as HyperTerminal for Windows 2000/XP or Tera
Term for Windows
3.1.3. Configuring the TCP/IP Settings on the Computer
In order to set up the network, configure the TCP/IP settings on the computer and
set up the network menu on the DVR. A qualified IT administrator will be
required to provide information about the network.
To set up the TCP/IP settings on a computer running Windows 2000/XP:
1. Click on Start. In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections.
