1.1. About the Smart-Reach Wireless Network
What is a Smart-
Reach wireless
network?
The Smart-Reach wireless LAN (local area network) is a communication system
designed for mobile applications.
In a standard Smart-Reach wireless network, as shown in Figure 1-1, a Smart-
Reach vehicle station and a small mobile antenna are installed onboard a vehicle
with an Explorer DVR. Another Smart-Reach unit is located in the office with a
terminal antenna to create the base station. The base station is the connection
point that ties wireless communication devices into a network.
Using this system, the surveillance footage on the DVRs can be accessed by a
qualified user from the base station while the vehicle is in the yard.
The Smart-Reach wireless network is based on the IEEE 802.11b and 802.11g
wireless standards to provide a secure, high-speed connection. Password
protection and wireless encryption help to ensure that all communication can only
be accessed by authorized personnel.
Customizing the
Smart-Reach
network
The Smart-Reach network has the robustness to service a fleet of one vehicle or
several vehicles. A variety of antennas are available depending on your
application and site requirements.
