OAM VC-AIS (alarm indication signal) and VC-RDI (remote defect indication)
defect indication cells are used for identifying and reporting VC defects end-to-
end.
You can also configure the OAM F5 loopback cell threshold on VCs, which is the
minimum number of consecutive OAM F5 loopback cells received before declaring
that a VC is up or lost before declaring that a VC is down.
5.5.4.2 T3
You can configure a T3 interface to execute a bit error rate test (BERT) when the
interface receives a request to run this test. You specify the duration of the test,
the pattern to send in the bit stream, and the error rate to include in the bit stream
by including the bert-period, bert-algorithm, and bert-error-rate statements,
respectively, at the [edit interfaces interface-name t3-options] hierarchy level:
[edit interfaces interface-name t3-options]
bert-algorithm algorithm;
bert-error-rate rate;
bert-period seconds;
§ period is the duration of BERT test, in seconds. The test can last from 1 to
240 seconds; the default is 10 seconds.
§ algorithm is the pattern to send in the bit stream.
§ rate is the bit error rate. This can be an integer in the range 0 through 7,
which corresponds to a bit error rate in the range 10-0 (that is, 0, which
corresponds to no errors) to 10-7 (that is, 1 error per 10 million bits).
5.5.5 Environmental monitoring
SNMP traps for power failure, fan failure, over temperature are supported. In
addition to that, the Routing Engine generates two classes of alarm messages :
§ Chassis alarms --Caused by problems originating in chassis components
such as the cooling system or power supplies. For example, a fan that stops
spinning generates a chassis alarm.
§ Interface alarms --Caused by problems on specific network interfaces present
in the router. For example, a fiber-optic connection that is lost generates an
interface alarm.
To display the alarm messages, enter the following CLI command:
user@host> show chassis alarm
