he Pearl-series firing chamber lifts out of
the way to give convenient access to the
shelf area.
“You can compose directly on the kiln shelf,
then close the kiln top,” said glass artist Judith
Conway, who uses the Pearl-18 in her Washington,
DC studio. “There is no need to balance and carry
a heavy kiln shelf from your work table over to your
kiln, trying to load the shelf in the kiln while not
disturbing the glass pieces in your design.”
Air pistons in all Pearls assist in lifting the top.
You can place the Pearl-18 and -22 on a table
without an extra stand.
To keep them cool for long, trouble-free service,
electrical components are mounted inside the base
of the Pearl-18 and -22 and in a separate switch
box on the Pearl-44.
For unsurpassed heat
distribution, the Pearl-22
and -44 include sidewall el-
ements. The lid elements
use an element groove that
eliminates element pins.
Because the element coils
are wider than the groove opening, the elements
stay in place without pins. The sidewall element
coils are protected in dropped, recessed grooves.
All Pearls have firebrick sidewalls and bottom.
The Pearl-18 and -22 have 3”-thick firebrick tops;
the Pearl-44 has a 3”-thick ceramic fiber top.
The Pearl-18 uses the digital 3-key Sentry
Xpress controller. The Pearl-22 and -44 use the
12-key Sentry 2.0. (See page 4 for details on con

trollers.)
For extra sturdy support, the Pearl-44 is made
of heavy tubular steel. For long life, its sidewalls in
-
clude expansion joints.
