Add an exception to the Windows
Firewall on all Retail Point of Sale
machines
An exception to the Windows Firewall should be set up
to allow Retail Point of Sale Administrator and Terminals
to communicate with each other. If the exception is not
set up, lists in Retail Point of Sale terminals may not
update with changes made in QuickBooks or Retail Point
of Sale Administrator, other changes made in Retail Point
of Sale Administrator may not be seen in the terminals,
and there is a risk of program errors occurring due to
the lack of communication between Retail Point of Sale
Administrator and the terminals. Set up the exception
even if the  rewall is off in case the  rewall is later
turned on.
On the Retail Point of Sale machines:
If running Windows XP or Windows Vista:
Go to the 1. Start menu and click Control Panel.
In Control Panel double-click 2. Windows Firewall.
If running Vista, in the Windows Firewall window click 3.
Turn Windows Firewall on or off on the left.
If the  rewall is 4. On, make sure the option Don’t allow
exceptions (XP) or Block all incoming connections
(Vista) is unticked.
Click the 5. Exceptions tab.
In the list of exceptions, make sure 6. File and Printer
Sharing is ticked.
If on XP, select this option and click 7. Edit.
All four ports should be selected. Click 8. Change
Scope for each port.
If all of the Retail Point of Sale installations are 9.
on one sub-net, then you can select My network
(subnet) only. Otherwise select Any computer
(including those on the internet), or select Custom
